Hurrah for Customising!

Check out the screenshot above. I saw this on Call For Help last night. It's a plugin for the Firefox browser to put a weather forecast right in your toolbar. Just my newest reason I love Firefox. If you have Firefox, you can get this here, because all the cool kids have it. Posted by Hello

Lent Scoreboard: Matt - 3, Willpower - somewhere around there

So, like others, I did some "Lenting" these past 46 days. My goals were: No greasy fast food (but things like Pitas and the good subs at Subway were allright), no pizza, and no chicken wings. Basically, I cheated a bit on each....

I was pretty good with the No Fast Food resolution, as I didn't actually go out to buy it. The only slip up was when I did some Wendy's drive-thru for Jessica and Josh. I drove through, but didn't order anything for myself.... however, I stole some french fries.

The pizza went not bad either, which I should consider a victory, since pizza is my favourite food. But anyway, like fast food, I never ordered pizza on my own. The only time I had pizza was the frozen stick-in-the-oven kind, which I only had because that's what was for dinner when I was visiting home for a weekend... twice.

The chicken wings went good too... Basically I wanted to stay away from the deep fried bad wings that you get at pubs, which I did. However, a couple times I had wings from the barbeque, which really aren't in the same catagory.

So, my final grade is probably somewhere around a C. Sure, why not?

I Got The Call

Yippie! I got to go curling tonight! I spared on my boss's Thursday night rec league team. I was relegated to playing lead, but that's ok, because I was just glad to be out there. I've only been curling once in the last seven years, so I thought I'd be a bit rusty... not so much, as I got into it again pretty quickly, which was surprising since as a lead I mostly threw draws, and those were never my strong suit. And to top it all off, we won 7-6. And the good news keeps on coming, as it looks like I'll be playing on their team next season. Finally, something to do besides my usual nothing.

What Are You Talking About

ok, now to reveal my cryptic message of earlier in the evening... It's about 1:00am now, and I'm just heading to bed now. Earlier, I thought it could have turned out to be another allnighter, but I got lucky this time. I kinda wish I had a life so I could legitimately say "No, I'm not working that much for you!"... kinda.

Anyway, with regards to recent inquiries by a certain individual.... you'll just have to see how many swear it takes to get you "Edited by Siteowner". Good Luck to All!

Here I Go Again

...don't ask. I'll fill you in later. Hopefully not too much later, if you know what I mean.

I've Been To The Future.... It Looks Like Next Week

So, after my epic story from last week, ending with my desire to have a time machine.... I decided to go out and buy one. I got a good deal on a used Delorean with the Time Travel option package. So, I set it for the future! So, I've arrived safely here in the future now... Did I miss anything important?

The Moral Of The Story

So, as I'll be approaching 37 hours straight awake by the time I get to bed tonight, I figured I'd give everyone the moral of the story....

I need a time machine.

It's done...

9am now... I'm finally finished work for the day... well for the yesterday, but now I'm an hour late for work today.

Well, The Sun Is Up Now...

and so am I... still. Ugh.

Have You Ever Had One Of Those Really Long Days At Work?

Well, I am right now. It seems it's quite easy to get sucked in when you live at the office. Hmmm... 5:11am? The sun will be up soon enough. Hopefully I'll get to sleep tomorrow.

Reclaiming My Identity (or Becoming Matt Brouwer)

Good news everybody! I just registerd the email address mattbrouwer[at]hotmail.com. It's kinda weird, since I tried to get it a couple years ago, and it was unavailable. But on a whim, I tried to register it today, and it worked. Apparently the person who had it let it expire. So, at some point I'm going to transfer all my MSN Messenger contacts to that address... so watch for it. I'm also thinking of changing my blog address from saxwithmatt.blogspot.com to mattbrouwer.blogspot.com, but I haven't decided yet.

I like getting the username mattbrouwer for everything I can now. First it was my University of Waterloo alumni account and e-mail address, then my rogers account, and now MSN! I've been trying to make my mark ever since that Christian singer from Alberta registered mattbrouwer.com. Jerk. What's even worse, is that the meta description tag for his website now says he's from Houston, Texas. What a freakin' sellout.

I've Figured It Out

Gary Bettman wants to kill the NHL, and along with it, any sort of top level professional hockey league. Here's why...

What was Gary Bettman doing before he became commissioner of the NHL? Why, he was a top executive with the NBA. Hockey was seeing a rise in popularity in the late 80's and early 90's, right before Bettman became commissioner on February 1, 1993. Now, before we go any further, let look at the big sports picture in North America... There were traditionally four major sports leagues: MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL. All together, there is sports all year round. Baseball has spring until fall, Football has the end of summer until January... both of them having a distinct time of year where it is their "season". However, during the period of October until June, both Hockey and Basketball run almost simultaneously. ie. they are direct competition for our entertainment dollar. Whether or not the NBA was worried by the NHL, I don't know. But what I think happened is this... Gary Bettman is a mole for the NBA. He came in, gave the players a sweet deal, which ruined the game financially and tweaked the game so it became less attractive competatively. Knowing the players would get addicted to their high pay, he goes into this negatiating period with a hard line, which he knows the players will never accept. All with the goal, since 1993, to kill the NHL. They may come back with replacement players, but he knows that most fans won't accept that, and will kill the league just as fast.

I expect that there won't be an agreement anytime in the near future, not until Bettman is sure hockey is dead. Look at the negotiations now, or lack there of. The players conceded on a salary cap, but the league refused to budge at all. They aren't negotiating.

The plan is coming to fruition. It's endgame.

Let's Talk About The Weather

So, it's cold out. I'm sick of the cold. I want warm weather to come. Maybe I'll just sleep until May. That's a good idea.

Well, seeing how I'm talking about the weather, I have now officially run out of things to post about. Sad really...

See Matt's Page. Now Commercial Free!

Hey all, I moved my website to a new location. It's now at http://ca.geocities.com/mattbrouwer@rogers.com. The good thing about it is that it's ad-free, unlike my last geocities site, and it's given me the opprotunity to update a few things. You know, make it look a bit more presentable. After Rogers teamed up with Yahoo and ...ahem... "upgraded" our accounts, they eliminated their webspace service, saying that we can all sign up with Yahoo Geocities. Well, people who had sites were upset that they were going to have to deal with advertisements on their sites now. So, Rogers threw them a bone and said that anyone who had an activated webspace would get the ad-free version of Geocities. Luckily for me, I had activated my webspace (even though I didn't use it), so I got me an ad-free site. I figured it was time to take advantage of it. The bad thing about it is now my freakin' e-mail address is in the URL. How stupid is that? Oh well, can't win them all.

Oh ICQ, I Pine For Thee

So, here I am IMing it up on MSN Messenger (saxwithmatt@hotmail.com if you want to add me, by the way) and I find myself thinking about the good old days of ICQ. I remember when everyone who was anyone used ICQ. My contact list was full of online people all the time. I open it up from time to time to find two things: 1. No one, and I mean no one, ever uses it anymore. And 2. As soon as I'm online, I find I'm getting spam instant messages. Perhaps #2 was the reason of ICQ's downfall, I don't know. Anyway, this isn't a wish for ICQ to come back in force, because I'm quite happy with MSN right now (that and everyone that I know who IMs uses MSN), but I was just feeling a bit nostalgic for an internet era of days gone by.... *sigh*
